Supports primarily a group practice environment and the clinical, academic, public service and educational missions of the Department and the Banner-University Medical Group. Works with the Department Administrator and Department Head to oversee clinical operations and coding, billing, reimbursement, and collection processes in the Department. Works also with the business manager to create reports to provide useful clinical practice information to the Department Head, its faculty and Banner-University Medical Group. Works with the Department Administrator, business managers and Department Head to develop and implement strategic and tactical business plans and the policies, procedures, and systems to support them.
Manages the administrative clinical functions which include front office operations, scheduling, and referral system to support the goals of the clinical programs; and assists the operations manager to assure that responsiveness to patient needs and financial goals of the Department and Banner-University Medical Group are appropriately met. Works closely with business managers, medical directors, department operations staff, and faculty.
Ensures optimal reimbursement through continued evaluation of fee schedules and coding practice and works with the Department Administrator and representatives from patient services to develop, implement and measure billing, collection, reimbursement, and revenue cycle processes.
Provides support as needed to the clinical medical directors and nursing leadership to develop and implement clinical operation policies and procedures. Works closely with the clinic operations manager, clinic nurse manager and clinic medical director for the preparation and management of clinical operations, capital budgets and financial reports. Ensures with Department business management that expenses are controlled and monitored and reported against budget.
Monitors clinical trends, such as patient volume, case mix, physician charging patterns, and patient satisfaction. Based on these trends develops and recommends procedural changes to the Department Administrator and Department Head and is responsible for the implementation of procedural changes. Ensures physicians are trained in documentation standards and are compliant with HCFA and Banner policies.
Hires, trains, develops, and evaluates the performance of the clinical business office staff.
Contributes to the development and implementation of short and long range planning for Department services and develops strategies to coordinate the services throughout Banner and in the community.
Provides support to academic and research functions within the Department.
Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, business administration, healthcare administration, or closely related field required
Knowledge and experience in physician practice operations normally gained through three years or more of physician practice experience required. Demonstrated management/leadership, communication and interpersonal skills are required, as is exposure in a physician practice environment and the ability to build and maintain credibility with physicians and staff. Extensive knowledge of and experience in financial and administrative management. Demonstrated skills in leadership, management and positive communications with physicians. Excellent interpersonal skills. Significant human resources experience. Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects.
Strong knowledge of ancillary services, clinical financial management principles, medical records systems, and electronic billing systems.
Masters degree in business administration, health care administration or related field preferred. Experience in Department specialty preferred.
