This position provides leadership, vision and direction to promote excellence in patient care, practice efficiency and strong financial stewardship. This position is responsible for directing, planning, and coordinating clinical activities and programs for designated areas, ensuring clinical activities are efficient, effective, and appropriately support the organizations multidisciplinary, patient-centered focus. This position may also have overall responsibility for providing leadership, direction, and administration of medical management, as well as the integration, coordination, and improvement of clinical care and patient safety for designated healthcare operations. This position serves as a member of the clinical leadership team at the system level, building and supporting effective collegial relationships with applicable internal and external stakeholders and ensuring optimal operating effectiveness and strategic positioning.
Provides leadership for the development of mechanical circulatory support (external ventricular assist devices, ECMO, Mobile ECMO, Impella devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and total artificial heart devices); lead collaboratively to assure the success of the program in Tucson and development of a new cardiac transplant program in Phoenix.
Leads the development of a system wide approach to the surgical management of heart failure, including outpatient management through end organ failure needing mechanical circulatory support and/or transplant. Supervises the development of a system wide, value-based and highly reliable program for advanced heart failure that involves care protocols, interdisciplinary care; improve patient outcomes, as well as patient and provider satisfaction.
Partners with Division Chiefs of Cardiology, College of Medicine, Tucson and Physician Executive Director, CV Institute/Division Chief, Cardiology, College of Medicine, Phoenix to develop and lead a comprehensive value-based advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant program for Banner Health.
Provides administrative and educational leadership internally and externally to promote Banner as an industry leader in the surgical management of advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation.
Has clinical responsibilities to serve on average 1 day a week in Banner University Medical Centers in Tucson and Phoenix to support the following activities:Contribute clinically as a co-surgeon/proctor for cases involving mechanical circulatory support, total artificial heart and transplant.Lead the education of the surgical teams involved in cases involving mechanical circulatory support, total artificial heart and transplant.Lead the development of clinical trials related to mechanical circulatory support, total artificial heart and transplant.
Doctor of Medicine.
Board Certification in respective specialty/discipline. Must possess or be eligible to obtain a current State license to practice medicine and be eligible for medical staff privileges.
Be a clinical leader with demonstrated exceptional skill in surgical and device therapies for advanced heart failure.Have achieved academic distinction and a national reputation in the field.Be a clinical leader who can bring together cardiologists and CT surgeons and other key stake holders to build a cardiovascular service line for advanced heart failure that rises to national distinction within 3 to 5 years.Have a record of collaboratively working with hospital and university leadership to recruit outstanding physicians and develop the CVI.Knowledge of fiscal operations. Record of achieving high patient satisfaction. Experience in medical student, resident and fellow training.Qualified academically for appointment at the Associate or full Professor level.Ability to establish strong relationships with community physicians to successfully build the program.
