The Clinical Advisor is a .1 FTE grant-funded, contracted position responsible for providing clinical leadership and professional guidance to the activities of the Arizona Coalition for Healthcare Emergency Response (AzCHER), a statewide healthcare coalition dedicated to preparing the state for a healthcare emergency and subsequent medical surge. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Policy Development, this position requires a community leader who is knowledgeable of and committed to healthcare emergency preparedness in Arizona. Applicants must 1) be clinically active; 2) possess a degree in nursing or medicine; and 3) have an established network of emergency and/or trauma clinicians and be willing to capitalize on this network for the benefit of the healthcare coalition. Contract will be effective through June 30, 2020 with the possibility of renewal in the following fiscal year.
1) Provide clinical leadership to the coalition
a) Serve as liaison between the coalition and the clinical leadership at health care facilities throughout Arizona, supporting entities (such as blood banks), and EMS agencies.
b) Engage clinicians from a wide range of specialties (e.g., pediatrics, burn, behavioral health) in coalition activities to validate medical surge plans and to provide subject matter expertise to ensure realistic training and exercises.
2) Provide clinical expertise to coalition
a) As requested, review and provide input into coalition plans, training documents, and exercise development and conduct to assure clinical accuracy and relevance.
b) Serve as primary point of contact for the inclusion of clinical support to a medical coordination center during a medical surge (MCC protocols in development)
MINIMUM EDUCATION: R.N.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: M.S.N. or other advanced clinical degree, M.D., or D.O.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 10 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine or trauma care
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 20 years of clinical experience in emergency medicine or trauma care; pediatric focus
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS: FEMA IS coursework, Center for Domestic Preparedness coursework
Position is effective 8/1/19 through 6/30/20 and may be renewed pending funding allocation for 7/1/20. Incumbent will be a contracted employee of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association.
