The Computational Image Analysis Laboratory (CIAL) at the Banner Alzheimer???s Institute (BAI), in Phoenix, AZ is looking for qualified applicants for a Bioinformatics Scientist position open immediately. BAI is a leading research institute under Banner Health focusing on Alzheimer???s disease and neuroscience research. It embraces a threefold mission: to help end Alzheimer???s without losing a generation, help set a new standard of care for patients and families, and to forge a model of multi-institutional collaboration in biomedical research. The CIAL focuses on the development and application of cutting-edge imaging/data/statistical analysis techniques to better understand AD and other related neurological diseases. Our research are supported by ongoing grants from NIH, the state of Arizona, private foundations, philanthropic and industrial partners.??
As a Bioinformatics Scientist, you will work with internal and external collaborators and colleagues, perform image/data analysis, write abstracts/manuscripts/scientific reports, develope data analysis pipelines/novel methodologies, and help with grant writing. You are strongly encouraged to pursue independent research and secure funding support.??Successful applicants are expected to have appropriate education (a PhD degree or equivalent) and training in engineering, physics, statistics, neuroscience, computer science, or a related field. ??Prior experience in relevant field is highly desired.

This professional level position is responsible for providing the research imaging analysis team and research data core leader with expertise on moderate and complex image data processing and analysis techniques through diverse activities to gather, analyze, evaluate, and integrate information and analysis results. Activities include implementing existing methods from multiple sources and/or developing data analysis methods via literature search or exploratory means, documenting the validity of all analysis methodologies, and judging information or analyses for appropriateness of incorporation into data results reporting and publications. The other responsibilities for this position include advanced contributions such as mentoring/managing the technical work of other bioinformatics analyst staff, guiding interns, writing papers, and initiating/implementing major procedural innovations.
1.??Participates in cross-functional teams and/or leads projects with regional or enterprise-wide scope to implement pre-clinical and/or post-clinical research analysis methodologies. This may also include providing oversight, change management, general work direction or leadership to individuals on the research data analysis team.
2.??Performs analysis of customer needs to ensure goals of each project support the stated aims of the research purpose and all analysis results being reported are appropriately documented and validated to ensure scientific integrity of the methodology(s) and data results.
3.??Keeps current on standards and practices within the relevant field of research as well as applicable regulatory/compliance issues within federally sponsored and FDA approved research. Provides system and reporting consultation on these issues as requested by project sponsors.
4. Creates presentations and/or reports for colleagues and investigators involving significant analysis of multiple or complex data sources. Serves as a liaison and expert resource for displaying of data in reporting, and availability of data.
5. Maintains optimal operation of departmental resources in partnership with IT or external software vendor, as appropriate. This may include leading the implementation, maintenance, testing and/or functional design of hardware and/or software to support the team???s analytical work requirements.
6. Participates in preparing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for existing and newly developed image processing and data analysis procedures.
7. Participates in presenting active research through presentation at local, national and international conferences. Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals. Assist in writing grants to obtain funding for ongoing and future research.
8. Develops interrelationships among both internal and external research investigators who might have similar information needs and professionally manages those relationships to assure effective solutions.
9. This position makes decisions using policies and guidelines, but must demonstrate expertise in applying solution to non-standard or routine situations.
Must possess a strong knowledge of neuroscience related imaging analysis as normally obtained through the completion of a PhD degree in a related discipline.
A level of experience as would typically be obtained in no less than 5 years working with complex data environments or systems. Must demonstrate ability to lead project or cross-functional teams to resolve, implement or reach consensus on issues. Advanced clinical research knowledge and demonstrated ability to utilize technical skills to resolve research analysis needs.
Demonstrate proficiency in MS Office, Linux OS, Shell Scripting, Matlab, SPSS, R, and/or database applications is required. Strong organizational skills, as well as, excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills are required.
Experience with department specific software (Freesurfer, SPM, FSL, ANTs, R, RedCap, XNAT, etc) and advanced integrated or independent report writing applications is preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
