Summary:
The Clinical Research and Performance Improvement Nurse Coordinator collaborates with leaders, staff, Rebecca D. Considine Clinical Research Institute, IRB, Nursing Research Center and Quality Services to promote, support and facilitate unit performance improvement activities and conduct of clinical research from inception through dissemination.
Responsibilities:
1.Screen, recruit and enroll subjects into clinical trials through Rebecca D. Considine Clinical Research Institute, ensuring effective subject enrollment, development and utilization of study case records, accurate data collection, documentation, and organization, and exemplifying competence within the parameters of the clinical research coordinator role according to local and federal regulations and guidelines
2.Coordinate study activities with colleagues within Akron Children's Hospital system and sponsors and execute study protocols in accordance with governmental and institutional policies.
3.Assist with development and submission of research proposals.
4.Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
5.Responsible for collecting, processing, and coordinating information pertaining to quality and performance improvement for the Department of Nursing.
6.With input from the Nursing or Multidisciplinary PI teams, physicians and staff, collects and analyzes data on identified indicators.
7.Develops and implements effective, efficient data collection and storage methods.
8.Assists staff in identifying performance improvement (PI) projects. Identifies desired outcomes.
9.Assists in implementing evidence based practice change and developing and utilizing nursing research.
10.Participation in American College of Surgeons Burn Verification preparation and site visit and attendance at burn conferences.
11.Uses data collected to lead the organization to further performance improvement actions.
12.Participates actively in fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing.
13.Other duties as required.
Other information:
Technical Expertise
1.Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to function as part of a team, astute clinical assessment skills across all ages, highly developed planning time management and organizational skills, Experience in blood drawing (via venal puncture, PICC line, central line and peripheral IV) and IV placement
2.Experience conducting clinical research highly desirable
3.Must be willing to travel to off-campus research conferences and study meetings.
4.Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience
1.Certification: Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the State of Ohio is required. Current Health Care Provider BLS [or equivalent] training is required. Obtains and maintains Pediatric Advanced Life Support [PALS] and Advanced Cardiac Life Support [ACLS] is required.
2.Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing is required Master's degree is preferred.
3.Years of relevant experience: 2 years of burn experience is preferred.
4.Minimum of 3- 5 years prior experience in pediatrics / adult medicine/or critical care experience nursing required
5.CRC certification desirable or willingness to become certified as a Clinical Research Coordinator when eligible
6.Years of experience supervising: None.
